Hayley Scamurra has already made an immediate impression with the Montreal Victoire in the PWHL. The veteran forward, who signed a two-year contract with Montréal in June 2025, celebrated her first goal for the team over the weekend during their 3‑1 home victory against the Toronto Sceptres, her former team from last season.

After the game, Scamurra explained that the experience was unreal and that she hadn’t even realized she had scored. She said it was great to score at home and to hear the fans cheering and shared how special the moment felt.

“It was incredible. Didn’t know I had it. I honestly thought Dara [Greig] had it, but it’s just been great to be with this group and to score at home with the fans cheering and everything. Yeah, incredible experience.”

The goal, which came early in the second period, gave Montreal a 2‑0 lead on the night and stood as the game-winner.

Revisiting the 2024 trade drama

Scamurra’s career has seen its share of whirlwind moments. Last season, she was traded from the Ottawa Charge to the Toronto Sceptres on December 30, 2024, in exchange for Jocelyne Larocque and Victoria Bach.

The trade also included defender Savannah Harmon heading to Toronto. Remarkably, she faced her former Ottawa team almost immediately after the move in a high-pressure situation.

Scamurra’s recent goal against Toronto brought back memories of that 2024 trade drama. She recalled that nothing really compared to the trade and playing against her former team the very next day and that the experience helped her manage any anxiety she might have been feeling.

“I mean, I was excited for this game. I think nothing really compares to the trade and playing my team the very next day. So, I think that that kind of helped in terms of like the any anxiety that I might have been feeling.”

She shared that she was thankful for the support from the crowd and her teammates.

“But honestly, I just feel such a big part of this team. Like they’ve welcomed me in really well and just rallied behind me and I think it didn’t really feel any like anticipation necessarily. I was just excited,” Scamurra recalled.

Hayley Scamurra opens up on adjusting to new role

Scamurra also discussed how she has adapted to a new role with Montreal. Because of an injury to teammate Jade Downie‑Landry, Scamurra shifted from wing to centre, forming a line with younger players Dara Greig and Skylar Irving.

“Yeah, it’s been a little bit of an adjustment for me for sure. I haven’t played centre in a few years, but I mean they’ve been great to play with,” she said.

“They bring like the fun energy that I sometimes need. I get a little too serious once in a while. So we’ve had a great time and they’ve been communicative with me, support me,” Scamurra added.

She noted that the coaching staff has also helped her with faceoffs and other aspects of the game, which showed in her performance on the night.

Fans can expect more memorable moments as Scamurra continues to up her game in Montreal.
